Intuition

A lot of people put emphasis on the fact that they are a gut player. My intuition tells me that the decision that I am about to make is based on a feeling. Others would call it an ability to read people. Don't forget that the whole economy is based on the fact and fictions of people.

Although this is true we also know that people are flawed and to the point that we all tend to succumb to the whims of emotion and irrational thought. If this is true then is intuition flawed and why are we making major decisions on economics, foreign policy, finance and more based on intution? Don't get me wrong the ability to be able to read people is indeed a covetous trait yet at the same time since the ability to read people is based on a flawed construct called being human we do indeed need something else in decision science.

Intuition along with decision mathematics is a marriage made in heaven and of course being a researcher the idea of heaven is strictly based on emotion, intuition and I being human. Nevertheless, the idea of intuition as the end all for making a decisions is indeed irresponsible there has to be more to be considered in order to make a rational decision. Yet at the same time human beings are at most times irrational although the desire to be rational is all consuming.

Again the ability to use intuition in such a way that is successful, decision mathematics is the crutch that human beings can rely on that does not mean that the idea to use your intuition is diminished it just means decision mathematics is a way to enhance it. I am always amused when someone says that they are a gut player and that they swear to their intuition as a way to make decision and sometimes I just have to ask what is the percentage that those intuitive decisions panned out? But of course this would mean that someone would have to use decision mathematics to enhance the intuition and is that not the problem in the first place?
